Mobile Money Tax Negate Bawumia’s Agenda- Manasseh Azure Awuni

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been trending for the wrong reasons in the past two days after the 2022 “Agyenkwa” Budget statement was read by Finance Minister, Hon. Ken Ofori Atta on November 17, 2021,  on the floor of Parliament.

In the statement, Mr. Ken Ofori Atta hinted of the government’s decision to tax mobile money and other electronic transactions.

If approved by Parliament then a 1.75% levy will be placed on all electronic transactions which include, mobile money payments, bank transfers, and merchant payments from January to widen the tax net.

However, Ghanaians in a rebuttal have referred the Akufo-Addo led administration to statements made by the Vice President in a video making rounds.

The latest to add a voice is award-wining journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni, who in a post on his Facebook wall reads “the tax on mobile money has negated Dr. Bawumia’s agenda.  It will affect small businesses that depend on mobile money”

The Vice President’s statement on electronic tax and levies has fueled doubts about his credibility and competence which is being questioned by Ghanaians.

The credibility of Dr. Bawumia has always been questioned following empty promises, discrepancies, and false hope to the good people of Ghana.

It would be recalled that the managing editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has also cast doubts on the Vice President’s credibility.
