Hon. Owusu Aduomi: Ashanti Regional Chairman Hopeful ’22 writes……..*
As a former Regional Best Farmer, and an aquaculture farmer, I can, to some extent, say I understand the toil of our farmers and also appreciate better, the difficulties our hardworking farmers go through to ensure we have food on our table. It is therefore prudent, to join in with the many Ghanaians who acknowledge the sacrifices our farmers go through and celebrate these gallant farmers for their tremendous contribution in consolidating our food systems.
The NPP government, with our flagship programs: Planting and Rearing for Food and Jobs (PFJ and RFJ) have created varying opportunities for farmers and all actors in the Agriculture value chain. Smallholder farmers and commercial farmers now have access to improved agro-inputs, proper animal husbandry and animal health, improved extension services, and proper market linkage.
The PFJ and RFJ programs have helped resuscitate many young agribusiness and agriprenuers. It has also helped improve our food security and eradicating poverty to an appreciable level. PFJ and RFJ continue to create wealth for many farmers who live on the venture as their livelihood strategy.
This year’s farmers’ day celebration theme; “Planting for Food and Jobs:- Consolidating our food systems is appropriate as it cements on our contribution and dedication in our quest to sustain our gains with these flagship programs especially in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
I edge all farmers especially farmers in the Ashanti Region to take full advantage of these initiatives and harness all the subsidy support the NPP government provides.
I’ll at this end say Ayekoo to our gallant and hardworking farmers, and pray the good Lord to bless us with more rains in the next major season.
May the Good Lord bless all farmers.
