Former Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, Hon. Edward Ennin has countered claims by the deputy general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), lawyer Obiri Boahen, who was captured on tape claiming the NPP can only break the eight with a candidate he (Obiri Boahen) would present to the party and that his candidate is a Mamprusi.
Lawyer Obiri Boahen however was unable to name the said candidate of his.
According to the lawyer, his supposed candidate is competent enough to lead the NPP in the 2024 general elections.
However, Mr. Ennin has downplayed the bluff of Obiri Boahen when speaking in an interview with an Accra-based radio station, Okay Fm.
Setting the record straight, Mr. Edward Ennin, quizzed the contribution of lawyer Obiri Boahen to the party and victory of former President Kufuor back in the election 2000.
He further charged at comments made by Mr. Obiri Boahen who alleged that “his candidate” is competent enough to break the eight.
In the words of Hon Ennin, ” I am not a lawyer but he Obiri Boahen is, and I do not know if his English is different from what we all learnt. On the issue of competence, before the NPP was formed in the year 1992, whose idea was it to establish the Young Executive Forum (YEF) to raise funds for the party when it was financially crippled?”
It took prominent men like, Peter Mark Manu, Hackman Owusu Agyeman, and Alan Kyerematen serving as the chairman of YEF to bring the party where it is today”
Is it not Alan Kyerematen who lobbied for over 530 million U.S Dollars for development in the country when Alan was the then Ambassador of Ghana to America?”
Also, does he Obiri Boahen know that it was out of the Millennium Challenge Account that the country had the N1 highway constructed?”
“Does he know about the Presidential Special Initiative? If he doesn’t know he should find out from former President Kufuor the brain behind it”
Addressing the host of the show, he said, “this man thinks I dislike him but that is not the case, I only dislike the way he talks”
“Anytime he talks the NPP losses vote. He is the main reason why we nearly went into opposition”
“Some of us always have to come in to clarify issues anytime he speaks”.
“Moving forward, look at former Ayensu Starch Factory and Free Zones, it takes someone of a great mind to have such vision”
“Even the Senior Minister, Hon Yaw Osafo Marfo, has proclaimed the good works of Alan Kyerematen. Is such a person not competent enough?
“Having said this I don’t know what Obiri Boahen means by competence”
“We need more jobs and Alan Kyerematen has proven himself strong through industrialization”
“The intriguing fact is, he, Obiri Boahen says, he is pushed to support his said candidate because of comments passed by John Mahama, I do not think Obiri Boahen is a serious politician if he means what he said”.
Mr. Ennin reiterated that Obiri Boahen’s speech can cause the party a lot.
