Tribal and Religious Campaign by Veep is Divisive and Destructive

An NPP YOUTH wing made up of experienced professional young men and women have held a press conference at the International Press Center in Accra, to express their grievances towards what they describe as unfair and bias actions by the party’s national executives for some recent improprieties within the party.

The secretary of the group, Mr. Jerry John Campbell addressing the media decried the spate at which the party’s Code of Conduct is being flouted.

Citing a communique that was issued prior to the last National Delegates Conference held in Kumasi, in which potential candidates of the party were advised on what to and not to do.
According to the group’s secretary,  some potential candidates intentionally ignored such directives.
However, he commended other potential candidates who complied with the said directives.

He noted that, at the conference, some known supporters of the vice president, Dr. Mahamud Bawumia, were spotted in branded Bawumia T-Shirts.
He further alleged that some supporters calling themselves ‘friends of Bawumia’ confided in them that, they were given ¢10 and T-Shirts to each to attend the conference.

He asserted that the T-Shirts were used as an “accreditation” by the Bawumia supporters.

Mr. Campbell recounted sighting several billboards belonging to some potential aspirants mounted at various centers close to the conference venue, an act he described, as an outright disregard for the party’s Code of Conduct.

Mr. Campbell chastised the leader of the party for failing to apply sanctions to Dr. Bawumia and other offenders. In his words,
“The party’s leadership looked on but took no action to bring such nuisance to order”.

The secretary claimed that a similar incident occurred during the celebration of the last Adae Kese as followers of the second gentleman of the country were seen with T-Shirts and placards of the veep. He said all this happened in the presence of the party’s  General Secretary, Mr. John Boadu, and the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as ‘Chairman Wontumi’ yet they remained silent.

Furthermore, Mr. Campbell bemoaned how some top guns were openly showing their support for the Vice President with the likes of Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, MP for Tolong, Hon. Habib Iddrisu, MP for Yendi, Hon. Farouk Mahama, Mr. Anthony Karbo, Nana Boakye (Nana B), Chairman Wuntumi,  Mr. Mohammed A Baantima Samba among many other names as leaders who are openly counting for support for the vice president.

Mr. Campbell again mentioned the worrying situation of the recent targeting of perceived Alan Kyeremanten Supporters.

He said that some officials of the NPP and supporters of Dr. Bawumia have started targeting some members of the party who are perceived to be supporters of the Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Alan Kyeremanten.

He alleged that there was a  grand scheme against the political ambitions of Alan Kyeremanten, in that people perceived to be associated with him or to be routing for him are sometimes threatened or in some cases suspended from the party.

Moreover, he passionately spoke about “the dangerous irresponsibility” of tribal and religious politics that some top officials and members are engaged in, in support of the Vice president.

The secretary noted that they have received several complaints of individuals who were campaigning in the name of Dr. Bawumia saying he should be voted for because he is a Northerner and a Muslim.

He cautioned that, “many African countries had been devastated by tribal and religious politics” and that “we will not let any individual or us such a slippery slope to dip Ghana’s democracy and discredit” the NPP.
