On Wednesday, 6th November 2024, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former Minister of Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Kwadaso Constituency (2009-2017), rallied support for Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana doubling as the Presidential Aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Honourable Akwasi Konadu, member of Parliament (MP), at the Manhyia North Constituency Rally. This event marked day three of the Vice President’s 15-day Ashanti Regional NPP Campaign tour, which commenced in Afigya Sekyere East Constituency followed with Kwabre East Constituency before concluding at Manhyia North Constituency.
The tour comprised two main engagements: meetings with stakeholders (including Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Party executives, religious leaders, and others) and a rally with the people at the respective constituencies.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto’s endorsement inspired hope for a brighter future under NPP’s leadership. Addressing the crowd, he affectionately appealed to them to vote for the NPP duo, saying:
“Akwasi Konadu is my nephew, and I know he has done well for you. Had you not seen his impact, you would not have gathered here in such numbers at this late evening hour. He is a solid guy. When you vote for Bawumia, please ensure you also vote for Hon. Konadu, so they can work together to drive Ghana forward.”
Dr. Afriyie Akoto warned against the opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC), citing their history of hindering Ghana’s progress. “Do not give them a single vote. With my eight years as an MP in opposition with them in Parliament, I am familiar with their ill attitude towards Ghana’s development. Go tell them we will not give them the mandate today, tomorrow, or any other day.”
As the party originated from Ashanti and Manhyia, where his father, Okyeame Baffour Osei Akoto formed the party, Dr. Afriyie Akoto urged the people of Manhyia North to take pride and work hard to retain the party in power. “Let us work tirelessly for Bawumia and Akwasi Konadu from now until 7 December, rain or shine. We must all ensure to send them to Jubilee House and Ghana Parliament – it is our duty.”
