The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) ‘s Chief Executive, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, has called for concerted efforts to strengthen Ghana’s agenda to attain Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030.
He addressed the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) 66th Annual General Meeting, held in the Volta Regional capital, Ho, on the theme “Fostering Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Professionalism in Ghana’s Health Sector.”
He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the GMA and the NHIA to ensure the success of the preventive healthcare initiative.
He explained the importance of the E-pharmacy platform, stressing, “This initiative by the Pharmacy Council, Office of the Vice-President, and the NHIA is actually taking shape. It has been piloted in the Northern and Volta regions and is expected to be extended to the Eastern region.”
“We believe this will serve as one of the platforms to fight co-payments. The NHIA’s commitment to addressing co-payments is part of the broader strategy to enhance the NHIS effectiveness and sustainability.”
Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye disclosed that the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will officially launch the telehealth project at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.
He expressed the Authority’s commitment to enhancing affordable and accessible quality healthcare through decentralization and digitization. “By working together, Ghana can build a stronger and more resilient healthcare system for all its citizens.”
