ALAN KYEREMATEN HAILS GHANAIAN FARMERS

A founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) who doubles as Minister of Trade and Industry in the Akufo-Addo led administration, Hon Alan Kyerematen, has touted the contribution by Ghanaian farmers to the Economic Development and Industrialization Agenda of Ghana.

In his words, “As we celebrate our gallant farmers today, it is important we reflect on the fact that not only do our farmers feed us as a nation, they are also pivotal in the Economic Development and Industrialization Agenda of Ghana.”

Farmers day celebration was instituted by Provisional National Defense Council in 1983 after the country experience severe droughts in the early 1980s, which impacted crop yields.

Farmers day is celebrated each year, to award farmers and fishermen who have excelled in agriculture.

The agricultural industry contributes at least 20% to 30% of revenue to the country’s socio-economic fronts

This year’s celebration would be held at Cape Coast in the Central Region, themed, Planting for Foods and Jobs – Consolidating Food System in Ghana.

Previous years have seen celebrations held in other locations as well.
