Sunon-Asogli Power supports Science education at  KETABUSCO

Sunon Asogli Power Ghana Limited, an Independent Power Producer (IPP), has donated 24 items of glassware of various quantities to aid teaching and learning of Science at Keta Business College (KETABUSCO).

The equipment includes 60 pieces of 250ml wide-mouth bottle, 2500ml bottle, six long-stem funnels, three separating funnels, two glass rods, 1000ml, 500ml,  and 50ml volumetric flasks, four, eight,  and 20 pieces respectively.

There were also five pieces of Geiser burette, pipettes (1ml, 2ml, 5ml, 20ml), 10, 20, 10, and 10 pieces respectively, 72 pieces of 250ml Erlenmeyer flask as well as colorimetric tubes (10ml and 50ml) 12 and 24 respectively among others.

The gesture was in response to an appeal by authorities of KETABUSCO, the second oldest second cycle institution in the Volta Region, established in 1939 but without adequate science and science laboratory.

The school, which started as a private school but became a fully-fledged public institution in 1974, has the General Science Programme introduced during the 2015/2016 academic year with the first batch of students completing in 2017/2018 academic year.

Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, Business Development Manager, Sunon Asogli Power Limited, who led the delegation to present the equipment, said they received a letter from the school appealing for support to furnish its laboratory.

He said a team, led by Mr. Jin Zhenyi, the General Manager of the company, therefore, went to the school to see at first hand, the status of the laboratory and upon return, directed their chemical department to arrange some equipment for donation to the school.

Dr.  Apetorgbor, who is an old student of KETABUSCO, urged both students and staff of the school to put the items to good use to attract more support from the company.

“Now that you have what you need, we expect you to put it to good use thereby impacting on your academic performance. If there’s a noticeable improvement in your academic performance, we shall do more for the school.”

Mr.  Etse Godstime Seake-Kwawu, Headmaster of KETABUSCO, thanked the company for the gesture and for “responding quickly to the appeal of the school for the Science department.”

He said the equipment would motivate the youngsters in the department to perform well.

He further proposed to Sunon Asogli to adopt the Science department.
