The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress for the 2024 general election, H.E John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated his resolve to reset the economy of Ghana if elected as president, but this time around with special focus on agriculture. He made this statement in the morning of Friday, November 8 2024 at Kasoa in the Central Region.
The former president took to his Facebook page to write the following.
“This morning, while addressing a passionate crowd, including chiefs and our Muslim leaders, in Kasoa, I shared with them one of the reasons I am calling for Change in our country’s leadership in the December elections.
This is because the NPP administration of Akufo-Addo and Bawumia has pushed too many Ghanaians further into poverty due to reckless borrowing and economic mismanagement.
Just look at the heartbreaking story of the late Dr Michael Agyekum Addo, CEO of the Kama Group of Companies. His financial struggles, exacerbated by this government’s debt exchange programme, which he publicly complained about, may have led to the loss of not just his life savings but, ultimately, his life.
This is not just one man’s story; it reflects the daily realities many Ghanaians face under this administration. As a people, we cannot sit idle while our brothers and sisters suffer.
During my presidency, we built strong foundations, from interchanges to schools and hospitals. Kasoa was transformed, and we saw genuine progress.
The NDC is ready to reset our economy with a renewed focus on agriculture, manufacturing, and a vibrant creative sector, as contained in our 2024 Resetting Ghana manifesto. I will implement the 24-hour economy to bolster job creation opportunities and guarantee sustainable growth. These will work together to support an economic resurgence in our country.
Throughout my interactions across the country, the people have been emphatic in their demand for urgent economic reform and responsible governance to alleviate their suffering.”
