In a dramatic turn within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Jomoro, Louisa Iris Arde, has officially announced her defection from Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team to join the camp of Dr. Bryan Acheampong.
In her statement, Arde explained that the decision was made after deep reflection and out of love for the NPP, the party that gave her the opportunity to serve her people. She described Dr. Acheampong as a leader whose “youthful dynamism, decisive and disciplined leadership” positions him as the candidate capable of delivering victory for the NPP in the 2028 general elections.
Arde praised Acheampong’s campaign style, noting its decency, message of unity, and ability to energize the party’s grassroots base. “His strategic candidature as someone who can easily connect with and ignite the NPP base led me to this important conclusion,” she said, pledging her full commitment to what she termed his “restoration project.”
While expressing respect for Dr. Bawumia, whom she previously coordinated for, Arde emphasized that her conviction now lies with Acheampong. “I still hold him in high esteem. I, however, believe that Dr. Bryan Acheampong is the one who can deliver the goods for the NPP,” she stated.
She concluded with a rallying call to party members, executives, and sympathizers to unite behind Acheampong, describing him as “the candidate of the present and the future.”
This defection adds momentum to Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s campaign, which has been gaining attention for its emphasis on discipline, renewal, and grassroots engagement across the country.
