Madam Grace Noi, the Head of Policy Planning at the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, has reiterated government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote decent work, capital development, and create an enabling environment for ethical labour migration.
She noted that the Ministry has resolved to supporting initiatives that foster employment opportunities within a framework of ethical labour migration.
Madam Noi made the disclosure in a message delivered on behalf of Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations at the inauguration of Job and Career Fair in Accra spearhead by Giving Africa A New Name.
“We are living in a time of unprecedented transformation in the world of work. Technology, globalization, climate change, demographic shifts, and now the increasing digitization of the economy are rapidly reshaping labor markets around the globe.”
The Head of Policy Planning at the Employment Ministry indicated that it is great to know that the initiative by the diaspora organization 360 Alliance is training young Ghanaians in the hospitality and IT sectors for employers in Germany, adding that this aligns with government’s development agenda of creating over two million jobs by 2028.
Madam Noi explained that the Ministry believes that the youth of Ghana are “our greatest assets and to fully access this potential we must ensure that they are equipped with the right skills, for the right job, and at the right time.”
She further stated “approach this exhibition with curiosity, openness, and determination. The world is changing, but with the right training, mindset, and support you will not only adapt to change but you will lead it.”
Edith Otiende-Lawani, 360 Alliance Member and Programe Initiator in Ghana and Nigeria, explained that 360 Mobility Programme, launched in 2023 in Germany is implemented in both Ghana and Nigeria.
“Migration is quite holistic. It has so many facets which call for a lot of support for our young talents. We want to try to support a regulated migration and maximize the potential of our young people,” she stated.
Mr. Dominic De-Graft Johnson, the Regional Director of the programme, emphasized the evolving nature of the global job market.
“We are living in a world that is evolving at an astonishing pace. The job market is more dynamic, more competitive, and more global than ever before. Traditional paths no longer guarantee success. Instead, adaptability, innovation, and strategic connections are the new currencies of growth” he said.
Mr. De-Graft Johnson intimated that the Fair was to help Africa—especially its youth to shed the limitations of the past and embrace the promise of a future where skills, ideas, and partnerships redefine what is possible.
“To the thousands of job seekers present here today: This is your moment. Whether you are a fresh graduate, an experienced professional seeking change, or someone restarting after setbacks, know this: there is something here for you. Remember, unlocking your next opportunity begins with showing up, and you’ve already taken that first step.”
Mr. Andreas Berding, the Head of the Ghanaian-European Centre for Jobs, Migration and Development, lauded the initiative, stating that the job fair was crucial for connecting job seekers with potential employers by highlighting the demands and expectations of both parties. He noted that his organisation took a keen interest in the fair, as job creation and migration preparedness were key priorities.
Mr. Akinola Famson, a member of the 360 Alliance, highlighted the significant challenge that language posed for many young talents exploring the German labour market.
“I would say that is the number one and most prominent challenge young talents from Africa are facing, especially those from English-speaking countries,” urging prospective migrants to prioritise learning a European language, particularly German.
Present at the ceremony were representatives from GIZ, IOM, Dauda Braimah, Chief Labour Officer at the Labour Ministry, and Oluwafemi Abe, Regional Coordinator, Nigeria, among others.
