Former Energy Minister, Hon. Boakye Agyarko has responded to questions of who a legitimate successor to President Akufo Addo in the party is, in an interview with an Accra based private radio station.
In defining the hierarchy of the party, the former Minister said “hierarchy is about loyalty to the party’s tradition, those who have served, paid their dues and worked hard for the party”
Making historical reference to the NPP’s tradition in 1969 election from M.A Yeboah down to Appiah Minkah during K.A. Busia’s era.
In determining who has worked for the party and successor in line Mr. Boakye Agyarko said “the NPP is a conservative party and decisions are based on collective wisdom. We watch from afar, the leaders and kingmakers then identify who has really worked hard for the party but, they do not impose the person on the party rather, the final decision comes from the delegates”.
In their wisdom, they vote for the deserving candidate.
The party is like a family, so we look out for who can care for the party most”
Mr. Boakye Agyarko went on to chastise the deputy general secretary, Obiri Boahen and cohorts not to do anything that would cause bloodshed and further break the party as others have given up their lives for the NPP.
His comments follows, the deputy general secretary’s comments that he is ready to abdicate his position to present the party with a presidential candidate.
He finally went on to wish former President John Agyekum Kufuor well on his 83rd birthday.
