Meet Dr. Ernest Owusu-Dapaa: New Dean KNUST Law Faculty

The KNUST faculty of Law has appointed Dr. Ernest Owusu-Dapaa as its new Dean. Prior to his appointment to his current position, Dr. Dapaa was the Vice Dean and Head of the Commercial Law Department at the faculty.

Dr. Dapaah was a member of the Pioneer faculty that started the 4- year LLB program at the KNUST in 2003 including the Rev. Prof. E. H Ofori- Amankwah, Professor Oswald Senedza, Dr. Renee Morhe, Dr. Anane, George Sarpong, Michael Alokore, JC Tarchie, Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, Albert Amankwah, and Mr. Addai.

He succeeds Prof. (Mrs.) Lydia A.Nkansah in his current role.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Following the successful completion of his law degree ( Bachelor of Laws)at the University of Ghana in 2001, he proceeded to the Ghana School of Law and completed his professional legal education, and was subsequently admitted to the Ghana Bar as a Solicitor and Barrister in October 2003.

He holds an LLM from Manchester and Ph.D. from Lancaster University.

Dr. Dapaa is an academic with considerable experience in university teaching, collaborative research, vast institutional management experience, board room experience, and headship/membership of high-profile Boards as well as law practice in the areas of litigation up to Supreme Court and transactional lawyering for international law firms and clients.

COMMITTEES SERVED ON

Some committees and Teams he has served and continue to serve include the following: Member, Governing Council of KNUST; Member, Executive Committee of KNUST; Member Academic Board of KNUST, Member, KNUST Statute Review Committee; Member, Legal Advisory Board of KNUST; Member, College Board of College of Humanities and Social Sciences; Member, Faculty Board of Faculty of Law; Member, Departmental Board, Department of Commercial Law; Member, Interim Management Committee, Tek-Cooperative Credit Union; Member, Odotobiri Rural Bank; Member, Board of Trustees, Centre for Human Rights and Advanced Legal Research.

In addition to the above, he is the Managing Partner at Owusu-Dapaa Law and Associates and a lawyer of about 18 years standing at the Bar.

He is a Senior Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer, Lancaster University Ghana with several academic papers and publications to his credit.

ABOUT THE KNUST FACULTY OF LAW

Since its inception in 2003, the Faculty of Law which started at the Great Hall of the University with fifty – seven (57) pioneer students, twelve (12) lecturers, and five (5) administrative and support staff, has grown to become a real leader in excellence and innovation since the days of its Founding Dean, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Hanson Ofori Amankwah till today.
