Insist on Good Governance; Not Coup – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has said the African Continent has suffered more with the years of Military coup d’états, and development is often retarded under such regimes.

According to him, for Africa to see continuous progress in its socio-economic development, military coups must not come to mind.

“Coups only retard progress. Let’s not entertain them,” President Akufo-Addo reiterated when officials from the Pan African Youth Union paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House in Accra.

He continued “We have to insist on good governance and democratic responsibility in our continent. We have seen what the years of coup and military intervention did to our continent in the past.”

The issue of coup has been topical in Ghana in recent times with Oliver Barker-Vormawor facing charges in relation to coup comments.

The leader of the Fixthecountry movement was arrested for his comments on facebook.

A police statement said Mr. Barker-Vormawor was arrested for threatening a coup if the controversial E-levy is passed.

The Bono Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC is also facing charges over allegations that former President John Mahama is planning a coup.

Mr. Mahama has, however, denied making any attempts to stage a coup as alleged by the NPP Bono Regional Chairman.

“H.E John Dramani Mahama has not met with any group of people, let alone a terrorist group, to plot to stage a coup d’etat.”

“This is not the first time Abronye has made such despicable and reprehensible allegations and caused same to be published about President Mahama and many other leading members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” a statement signed by Aid to the former President, Joyce Bawah Mogtari further disclosed.
