Mahama donates Ghc100K to Radio Gold to restart operations

John Dramani Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has donated a sum of GHC100,000 to the management of Radio Gold to restart their operations after validation of their operating licenses by the National Communications Authority (NCA).

The cash donation is reported to have been handed over to the management of the station on Wednesday, November 5, 2021.

On October 12, the NCA announced the restoration of the radio broadcasting authorizations to Radio Gold, XYZ, and other radio stations.

The approval is subject to the applicants attending a sensitisation workshop on the terms and conditions of FM radio broadcasting authorisations.

It said provisional authorisations shall be issued to the successful applicants at the end of the workshop and frequencies shall be assigned to the applicants only upon the fulfillment of the conditions of the Provisional Authorisation.

The National Communications Authority (NCA), the broadcasting and telecommunication frequency regulator in Ghana, shut down Radio Gold and 131 other radio stations over their refusal to pay operating license fees and expiration of their licenses.

In a statement issued by the NCA in Accra on May 9, 2019, said the closures were carried out in accordance with Regulations 65 (1) of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011, L. I. 1991, which states that “A person shall not use a radio frequency without authorization from the Authority.”
